V. Engage in professional growth and leadership
Teachers continuously improve their professional practice, model lifelong learning, and exhibit leadership in their school and professional community by promoting and demonstrating the effective use of digital tools and resources.
a. Participate in local and global learning communities to explore creative applications of technology to improve student learning
b. Exhibit leadership by demonstrating a vision of technology infusion, participating in shared decision making and community building, and developing the leadership and technology skills of others
c. Evaluate and reflect on current research and professional practice on a regular basis to make effective use of existing and emerging digital tools and resources in support of student learning
d. Contribute to the effectiveness, vitality, and self-renewal of the teaching profession and of their school and community
Reflections: Standard V advocates that teachers take ownership of their own professional growth and to demonstrate leadership. In order to meet this standard, teachers must collaborate with other teachers and administrators, engage and participate in professional development education and seminars, and demonstrate leadership by incorporating technology into the practice of teaching in their own classrooms, share and help other colleagues to learn technological skills such as we have this semester in IT 645. Projects completed this semester that can allow teachers to demonstrate professional technological growth and professional collaboration are projects like our course website, blogs, or surveys. These projects allows teachers to showcase their ability to utilize digital technology properly within the scope of learning and can provide opportunities to collaborate and teach others how to properly navigate and use the technology. These tools can also be used to enhance communication with students, educators, parents, and administration. Leaders maintain communication with all individuals involved in the educational setting, they research and find solutions to problems by obtaining and analyzing data, they maximize learning and ensure that instruction is student-centered and help give insight to others.

Future learning goals: My personal goals this upcoming year is to become more involved with leadership opportunities within the high school where I teach. Also, I will begin seeking out further professional development opportunities to further my own education in the use of technology in the classroom. Our state wants students to be actively utilizing technology themselves while engaging in learning. Therefore, I must infuse my curriculum with rich learning experiences that follow this mandate.
