Standard 4
IV. Promote and model digital citizenship and responsibility
Teachers understand local and global societal issues and responsibilities in an evolving digital culture and exhibit legal and ethical behavior in their professional practices.
a. Advocate, model, and teach safe, legal, and ethical use of digital information and technology, including respect for copyright, intellectual property, and the appropriate documentation of sources
b. Address the diverse needs of all learners by using learner-centered strategies providing equitable access to appropriate digital tools and resources
c. Promote and model digital etiquette and responsible social interactions related to the use of technology and information
d. Develop and model cultural understanding and global awareness by engaging with colleagues and students of other cultures using digital age communication and collaboration tools
Reflections: Standard IV requires that teachers provide adequate instruction and demonstration by modeling regarding safe and legal online practices and ethical behavior while using technological resources. This involves monitoring the privacy of all involved with the use of technology and making students aware of copyright laws and proper citation of sources to avoid plagiarism. Teachers must set the bar and lead by example in all aspects of proper use of technological tools and resources. Furthermore, teachers must address the needs to a diverse group of learning styles and academic levels by providing differentiation of instruction. This means providing various tools, resources and different assignments that allow student success no matter the learning style or level. For this aspect of Standard IV, the tutorial video, interactive Edpuzzle, and audio podcast are projects that were completed that can provide students with varied instructional learning tools. Over the course of the semester, we also completed a Blog that requires us to reflect on readings and creation of projects. Also, we were to provide our group members with feedback on their reflections and projects on their Blog posts. This is an excellent way to model digital etiquette and proper social interactions and promote collaboration and professionalism! Blog projects can also address cultural understanding and global awareness by participating in communicating with those in other countries.

Future learning goals: In the upcoming school year, I plan to implement a plagiarism tutorial to address the lack of understanding when it comes to research papers, essays, and projects. Many students have not had an in-depth look at the different forms of plagiarism and I believe that this needs to be addressed. I will also create different EdPuzzle interactives because I believe this is a great way to ensure that students are paying attention to the tutorial video!
